Reference electrode BR44

Description
Redox potential measurements with separate electrodes require the use of a measurement electrode and a reference electrode. The latter will retain a constant, stable potential during the measurements.

- Silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) reference electrode for argentometric assays and/or ORP measurements. It is widely used for clogging samples.
It comprises a glass body containing a silver wire partially covered by an AgCl film and plunging in a solution of KCl 1 mol/L and KNO3.

- Double junction
Only one of the two junctions comes directly into contact with the sample. The reference element is then physically separated from the external electrolyte.

- The internal compartment is filled with KCl 1 mol/L while the external compartment is filled with KNO3 1 mol/L.
The advantage of this double junction with double electrolyte lies in the fact that potassium nitrate (KNO3) does not react with certain ions, unlike KCl. For this reason, this electrode can be used for a wider range of applications. In addition, the reference electrode is much better protected if the solution to be analysed penetrates inside the electrode, thus considerably reducing the risk of contamination.

The choice of the reference electrode depends above all on the experimental conditions for your measurements.

This reference electrode must be used with a measurement electrode for correct ORP measurement.

- Various connection technologies are available for adaptation to all your instruments.
